Give Judy my notice

"Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else." -Judy Garland*

It's hard to be someone you're not. Even harder to try and put yourself in someone's good graces by trying to be that "not." And in that spirit,
"Comparison is the thief of joy." - Clive Staples Lewis

I won't ever be that person/woman/thinker/Christian that some people expect me to be. And I am {sort of} {working on becoming} {adamantly accepting} {vehemently} OK with that. I am my own person/woman/thinker and the God I strive to know is bigger than any person's expectation I can't fulfill (or, for that matter, disagree with or don't want to fulfill).

HOWEVER, that doesn't make living with the expectations any easier. Especially when you know you will have to deal with this (these) expectation(s) for a
long,
long,
long,
long
time.

Sometimes I wish I could stand on a counter top a la Where the Wild Things Are and yell out the things that I like about who I am that are contrary to these expectations.
Maybe I will.
I'll probably wait until my roommates are gone, though, so I don't scare them.

*I don't know how I feel about quoting Liza Minelli's mom but I do think it's a damn good quote proven better in practice. I heart authenticity, even if I disagree with your brand of it, even if you disagree with mine. And the more we get together the happier we'll be, la la la.

Wouldn't have you any other way, love. And go ahead and yell on the counter. I might join you.

You couldn't scare me. Please yell. Loud. For your sake (and a little for mine too).

You are. That's all.
